Channel the Need

Recently I was advising a political Facebook group, and one key factor I could not get some of the candidates to understand was “define the voter’s need then fill it.” The candidates only wanted to say how good they are. Corwin Porter, the assistant director for nearly five years, is now in charge of the Department of Public Health, which is responsible for tracking COVID-19 cases and deaths and hosting community-testing events. The department also includes the acting health officer, who has been issuing orders meant to slow the spread of the disease. Porter has been serving as interim director after the previous director left in May. “We are very pleased that Corwin will bring his extensive experience to this role serving the residents of San Bernardino County,” County CEO Gary McBride said in a news release. “Through his extensive training and experience, Corwin has built a culture of quality by developing staff and encouraging leadership positions.” Corwin, who has worked for the department for 31 years, was also director of envir...
