Coronavirus State Tracker: California reported 12,164 new cases and 177 new deaths, leads the nation in total cases

California had at least 12,164 new cases of the coronavirus and 177 new deaths reported as of Thursday, July 23, raising the state’s total cases to 428,907 and total deaths to 8,173 according to unofficial counts from county websites. California leads the nation in total cases.

The state’s breakdown of CASES by age is as follows:

    • 5 and younger: 1% (8,073)
    • 5-17: 7% (29,262)
    • 18-34: 35% (149,968)
    • 35-49: 25% (106,885)
    • 50-59: 14% (60,232)
    • 60-64: 5% (21,985)
    • 65-69: 3% (15,272)
    • 70-74: 2% (10,756)
    • 75-79: 1% (7,501)
    • 80 and older: 3% (15,215)

The state’s breakdown of DEATHS by age is as follows:

      • 5 and younger: 0% (0)
      • 5-17: 0% (0)
      • 18-34: 1% (97)
      • 35-49: 5% (429)
      • 50-59: 10% (778)
      • 60-64: 6% (593)
      • 65-69: 10% (760)
      • 70-74: 11% (870)
      • 75-79: 12% (935)
      • 80 and older: 44% (3,487)
