The first toys for "Avengers: Endgame" are in stores Sunday and there's at least one action figure fans are going to be very excited about seeing in the lineup.
INSIDER previewed the entire first wave of "Avengers: Endgame" toys with Hasbro in New York City mid-March, and there's a lot to be excited about. While fans scour the new releases for hints at the upcoming sequel, one of the biggest reveals confirms we'll see Clint Barton (played by Jeremy Renner) take on another persona in "Endgame" called Ronin.
Three of the new action figures released show off the samurai with his iconic swords that have been teased in the "Endgame" trailers.
First up, is the Legends Series' Ronin.
"You see Ronin here, Hawkeye, and his awesome ninja outfit," director of global brand strategy and marketing for Marvel, Michael Pullano, told INSIDER.
He comes with two warrior swords and throwing stars. The Legends Series' Ronin comes with interchangeable hands and is recommended for ages four and up. He will be available in stores and online for $19.99.
We've seen this look teased in the first two "Avengers: Endgame" trailers, but we weren't sure if the film will actually refer to Barton by the Ronin name or just deliver a nod to it. The toys, at the least, are calling Hawkeye's character Ronin.
Ronin will also be available as one of five 6-inch figures. (The others in this first wave are Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Captain America, and War Machine.)
Finally, Hasbro is releasing a 12-inch Ronin figure in its Titan Hero series that will also be available for $9.99. This toy will actually speak and make "character-specific sounds" if it's combined with a Titan Hero Power FX launcher, which comes included with Captain America, Captain America, Ant-Man, Iron Man, and Black Panther.
The line was first launched last year by Hasbro. Pullano tells INSIDER the line is also backward compatible with the 2018 Titan Hero figures.
Who is Ronin?
Ronin is a persona multiple characters in the Marvel Universe adopted over the years. The word is Japanese for a lone samurai. Barton took on the mantle of the warrior after the events of "Civil War" in the comics so that would line up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe perfectly. The last time we've seen Hawkeye on screen was in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War." He went into retirement to spend his life with his family.
As Pullano mentioned to us, Ronin is a badass ninja. Barton only stays as Ronin briefly in the comics before returning to the Hawkeye role.
Why would we see Hawkeye dressed like this?
If you're wondering why Hawkeye has new superhero gear in "Avengers: Endgame," it's probably not for a good reason. We're guessing he was also affected by Thanos' life-changing snap at the end of "Avengers: Infinity War."
We briefly see Hawkeye happy in the newest "Endgame" trailer with his family before the image is juxtaposed with a somber Clint Barton in the rain dressed in the Ronin suit. If Hawkeye's family vanished right before him, it could have sent him into a downward spiral.
"Avengers: Endgame" is in theaters Friday, April 26. You can follow along with our "Avengers: Endgame" coverage here.
