The 4 Best Thick Heavy Sheets

There's one surefire way to get good rest every night, and it has everything to do with your sheets. A great set can cradle you in silky softness, and the best thick, heavy sheets feel like a dream. Before you invest in a great set of sheets, you'll want to consider the type of fabric they're made from. The thickest sheets are usually made from flannel or the slightly silkier velvet flannel. Both are soft, heavy, and more than capable of keeping you warm in frigid weather. But if you're not sure you want to go all in on the very thickest sheets, a more breathable option like jersey knit or Egyptian cotton sheets may be your best bet. Another thing to keep in mind is your sleeping situation. Have a shedding pet at home? Velvet, flannel, and jersey knit tend to be loosely woven, so pet hair clings to these fabrics, making it difficult to remove it. In this case, tightly-woven cotton sheets work best. But if you tend to get hot while you sleep, thick cottons can be c...

The Los Angeles Football Club does not care how last season’s MLS Cup runner-up feels ahead of its 2019 home opener this weekend at Providence Park in downtown Portland. Though LAFC can empathize with at least half of what the Portland Timbers experienced over the first three months of this Major League Soccer season. Following six consecutive away matches to begin its expansion year in 2018, LAFC eagerly settled into Banc of California Stadium and went 10 straight home matches without a loss to help secure a playoff spot in its first season. Awaiting the reintroduction of its home grounds on Saturday, the Timbers, sitting 10th out of 12 teams in the Western Conference, must defend their fortress to earn as many points as they can and land a spot in the 2019 postseason. With 17 of Portland’s 22 remaining Major League Soccer regular season matches set to take place on the newly installed artificial turf field inside a 93-year-old venue that underwent $85 million in privately-funded ...

This is a preview of a research report from BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service. To learn more about BI Intelligence, click here . Social media is becoming increasingly influential in shoppers' purchasing decisions. In fact, the top 500 retailers earned an estimated $6.5 billion from social shopping in 2017, up 24% from 2016, according to BI Intelligence estimates. In addition to influencing purchase decisions, social media is a large part of the product discovery and research phase of the shopping journey. And with more and more retailers offering quick access to their sites via social media pages, and shoppable content becoming more popular, it's likely that social media will play an even larger role in e-commerce. In this report, BI Intelligence examines the advantages and disadvantages of each platform, and reviews case studies of successful campaigns that helped boost conversion and increase brand awareness. Attorney General William Barr told CBS News this week that the Department of Justice (DOJ) "didn't agree" with the former special counsel Robert Mueller's "legal analysis" in the obstruction-of-justice case against President Donald Trump. Barr added that Mueller's analysis "did not reflect the views of the department." The statement is a direct contradiction of Barr's previous congressional testimony, during which he said the DOJ "accepted the special counsel's legal framework" and "evaluated the evidence as presented by the special counsel in reaching our conclusion" in the obstruction case. Mueller did not make a decision one way or another on whether to charge Trump with obstruction, but he laid out an extensive roadmap of evidence against the president. Prosecutors also noted that a president is not immune from prosecution after leaving office, and that Congress has the authority to impeach. One former seni...

Orange County Supervisor tells CalOptima how to spend $60 million for homeless health care

Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do offered a spending plan Wednesday for CalOptima, the county’s health insurance for the poor, saying the agency needs to do more to improve its outreach to homeless people — a group that he noted is dying at an alarming rate. Do, a CalOptima board member, also called for a special June 14 meeting of the agency’s directors to consider his proposal that the agency “immediately” spend $60 million of a $100 million package approved by CalOptima in April. CalOptima oversees health services for 750,000 indigent Medi-Cal program members in Orange County. Do, during a news conference Wednesday, accused CalOptima administrators of allowing health services for people living on the streets and in shelters to get tied up in red tape, repeating a critique he’s offered several times in the past year. And in a letter to CalOptima Chief Executive Officer Michael Schrader, dated May 29, Do wrote that nearly three quarters of the 210 homeless people who died last y...

The US Navy is denying it obscured the late Senator John McCain's name on a ship during President Donald Trump's visit to Japan. According to the Wall Street Journal, the White House requested the USS John McCain (DDG-56), a naval guided-missile destroyer named after the late Republican senator from Arizona, to be "out of sight" during President Donald Trump's recent tour of Japan. A US Indo-Pacific Command official gave instructions for Trump's trip following discussions with the White House and the US Navy's Seventh Fleet, according to an email reviewed by The Journal, which reportedly said, "USS John McCain needs to be out of sight." Photos seen by The Journal showed the ship's name was covered with a tarp prior to Trump's arrival, and sailors reportedly took off coverings that revealed McCain's name. The tarp was eventually removed and a barge moved closer to the destroyer, though it was unclear the purpose of the barge...
